First I took one of the crossword puzzle sheets
and tore big chunks out of it, then glued it down. Then I laid
down random pieces of masking tape to add texture under the
paint. After that I globbed down big spots of texture with a
paint medium called Resin Sand. The paint medium is basically
clear gel with clear sand mixed in. You can mix it with paint
to create texture and stuff for projects. In this case though
I put it on by itself. After it was dry I smeared some gray
paint all over the whole thing! I love the way it looks with
the crossword puzzle peeking out from underneath! Yay!
